Tourism Board will not re-appoint Knysna Tourism CEO

Knysna Tourism CEO, Shaun van Eck, announced at the last Meet and Greet that the Tourism Board had informed him his contract would not be renewed when it expired at the end of June 2011, prompting legal action by van Eck as well as a flurry of activity among Tourism members.
Van Eck was given an assurance in writing earlier in the year that he would be re-appointed. His lawyer is due to meet the Board’s lawyers on 30 December 2010 in an attempt to settle the matter.
It appears that van Eck has considerable support among Knysna Tourism members. Peter and Dee Hollely have published a resolution opposing the decision and are urging members to download, print, sign and either mail this to pemh@global.co.za fax it to 086 671 0505 or deliver it to Fisherman’s Cabin on the Waterfront by tomorrow, 29 December 2010.
“Unfortunately, this unacceptable decision by the Tourism Board has come at a very difficult time for all of us as this is our busiest season. We apologise for this pressure but we believe that it is IMPERATIVE that we state, in no uncertain terms, our position against this decision,” said Hollely in a letter to Tourism members.
