Tour de Braai day one

The Tour de Braai is a five-day gravel ride from George to Swellendam, conceptualised by Jan Braai, the man behind the National Braai Day initiative.

Taking in some of the most scenic passes in the Klein Karoo and the Western Cape, the Tour de Braai offers riders the opportunity to cycle at leisure and then enjoy their post-ride surroundings to the maximum. As the name suggests, the Tour is also about lighting a fire and enjoying a braai.

Riders of the inaugural Tour de Braai, a gravel ride from George to Swellendam, make their way up Montagu Pass on day one of the tour. The ride is the brainchild of Jan Braai, the man behind the National Braai Day initiative. In this first Tour de Braai, participants will enjoy gravel riding through the Klein Karoo and braais at the most scenic locations on the route. Day one started in George and will end in Oudtshoorn.

South African mountain bike star Erik Kleinhans was the first ever recipient of the Tour de Braai yellow jersey. Kleinhans raced to the top of the Montagu Pass to earn his colours on the Tour de Braai, a five-day gravel ride from George to Swellendam. Day one of the tour will take riders from George to Oudtshoorn.
