Heritage Tour an ‘unforgettable trip’

George – The sixth Liquorland Heritage Tour, which took place from 23 to 27 September, is regarded by all participants as an “unforgettable experience”.

“The Liquorland Heritage Tour is done, but the smile remains on my face,” said Phillip Rosser, member of the organizing committee who also took part in the tour. Liquorland was the main sponsor for the fifth consecutive year.

The Heritage Tour travelled through the Eastern Cape, with participants staying at Jeffreys Bay, the village of Addo, Graaff Reinet and Willowmore. “We were pleasantly surprised by the warmth with which we were welcomed at The Kraal in Addo, Profcon in Graaff Reinet and The Willows Guesthouse in Willowmore. At Profcon, the venue for our gala evening was beautifully decorated, and at The Willows Guesthouse, staff met us in the street!”

At Jeffreys Bay they met the Jeffreys Bay Classic Car Club and were treated with snacks and drinks at the Supertubes Park, where members of the public came to see the vehicles.

Eighteen vehicles, the oldest a Ford Model T manufactured in 1926, took part in this year’s Heritage Tour. “Everybody travelled without incident and the sweeper van had no work whatsoever,” said Rosser.

Eventually they travelled 1100 km because they had to take a detour to miss a protest action at Motherwell near Port Elizabeth. “Uitenhage’s traffic chief warned us in advance to avoid the route between Uitenhage and Addo village.”

According to Rosser, the Heritage Tour will definitely travel through the Eastern Cape sometime in the future, but a different route will be planned for 2018. “Wherever possible, we try to plan a different route every year. It is difficult, especially when one tries to avoid busy main routes.”

Liquorland indicated that they will not be the main sponsor for next year’s tour. “We are extremely thankful for their support over the past five years, but we will have to seriously start looking for another main sponsor.”

The next opportunity for members of the Southern Cape Old Car Club (SCOCC) to participate in a tour of this kind, will be during the Veteran Tour which takes place before the George Old Car Show on 10 and 11 February 2018. The Veteran Tour will in 2018 for the first time span four days and will end in George on the eve of the George Old Car Show.

Erfenistoer ‘n ‘onvergeetlike’ ervaring

George – Die pas afgelope sesde Liquorland Erfenistoer is pas afgehandel en word allerweë as “onvergeetlik” beskryf.
