The S W D cricket team, on Saturday afternoon, recorded one the most dramatic victories since their maiden first-class match played in 2006, when they defeated the North West Dragons by 28 runs at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom.  Marcello Piedt bagged 7 wickets in the match including a 5 fer in the first innings.  The Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn will be the venue for one of the penultimate round matches in the Cricket South Africa Four Day franchise competition when the W S B Cape Cobras take on the Multiply Titans. The match starts on Monday 21 January.  A disappointing batting performance by the S W D team in their vital one day clash against the Dragons at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom on Sunday was the main reason for their 4 wicket defeat against the defending champions.  Obus Pienaar blasted 83 runs for S W D in a losing cause.  Union Stars are back on the top of the table after they were too strong for Ramblers. Leroi Bredenkamp scored 85 for the victors.  Mossel Bay defeated Western Hope, George beat Pirates United, and Knysna Cavaliers were too good for Pacaltdorp United.  The S W D Cricket schools league fixtures will resume on Saturday after a holiday break.  With all their provincial players available a few interesting clashes are on the cards for this weekend’s Premier league fixtures. It will be a busy weekend with all ten teams in action on Saturday and Sunday.

A group of 30 matriculants started their job readiness training at the George Youth Café on Monday. The George Municipal Youth Office in partnership with the George Youth Cafe and the Department of Labour, is running the Job Readiness Workshops for youngsters at no cost.

Dramatic victory for SWD vs Dragons in Three-Day match

The SWD cricket team, on Saturday afternoon, recorded one the most dramatic victories since their maiden first-class match that was played in 2006 when they defeated the North West Dragons by 28 runs at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom.  Marcello Piedt bagged 7 wickets in the match inlcuding a 5-fer in the first innings.
