Eyewitness News has learnt that officials from the Public Protector’s Office have seized documents pertaining to alleged tender irregularities at the George-based Eden District Municipality.
The public protector is investigating the awarding of a R1.4 million tender to one of the country’s leading audit firms.
Eyewitness News understands investigators swept on the Eden District Municipality’s offices on Tuesday morning after a complaint was leveled by a senior staff member.
The official claimed tender procedures were flouted during the appointment of forensic audit firm KPMG.
Spokesperson representing the Public Protector’s Office, Momelezi Kula said, “Our Western Cape investigators are at the Eden District Municipality.”
Kula confirmed a probe was underway.
“There is an investigation that is going on there.”
The complaint was also sent to Local Government MEC Anton Bredell.
