The kick off to the December summer holiday season in the Garden Route has just been enhanced by Algoa FM which will take to the Garden route airwaves from 1 December 2011. This contemporary adult station has more than 700 000 listeners in the Eastern Cape.
From Thursday 1 December to Sunday 4 December the Vibe Mobile with Algoa’s jockey Kaycee Rossouw joined by the Algoa FM hit squad will be entertaining and handing out awesome Algoa FM goodies at the different venues in Knysna, Sedgefield, George and Mossel Bay.
The launch kicks off on Thursday with a live broadcast from 06:00 – 19:00 at Freedom Park, at the top end of York Street in George giving the community an opportunity to meet the daytime presenters.
After an intensive investigation and research and six years of persistence ICASA has granted Algoa FM permission to extend its footprint to the Garden Route.
It is the first time that ICASA has granted any ex SABC commercial station permission to extend its footprint.
This is seen as a major injection for tourism in the area. “We will be actively promoting the whole region to the thousands of people who travel along the Garden Route and those who visit the Eastern Cape.
“This will help the tourism industry to encourage people to stay a little longer, to explore the region more, and to come back again the next year to experience what they missed,” says Algoa FM managing director Dave Tiltmann.
The station also hits the area with a brand new addition: RDS.
Algoa FM is the first station to introduce the RDS (Radio Data System) in the Southern and Western Cape. According to Chris Wright, New Media and Technical Manager of Algoa FM, listeners will be able to see on the dial of their radio what the name of the song, the artist and the show is. “You will no longer need to rack your brain in order to find the details” he added.
Make sure you share in the Vibe and the thrills of Algoa FM during the launch period. From 09:00 on Thursday you can catch all the fun with the Vibe starting at the Knysna Mall and then ending off for the day at the Knysna Waterfront. On Friday they start the day in George and will be at the Garden Route Mall in the morning and Kalahari Restaurant and Theatre in the afternoon. On Saturday the Santos Express Train Lodge will host them and then they will move to the Mossel Bay Mall, Diaz Strand Hotel and finish up with an activation from the Garden Route Casino.
On Sunday Kaycee and his gang will move to Sedgefield before heading back to Port Elizabeth.
