The SWD Cricket Board recently announced a list of fourteen players that will form part of the 2012 intake of the SWD Cricket Academy. It will be the third intake of the SWD Cricket Academy.
Four players from previous intakes namely Kobus Scholtz, Glenton Stuurman, Bradley Carolus and Bronwill Goeda have been included in the 2012 intake. Academy Manager Garry Hampson mentioned that the reasons for this are that these four players still have a lot of development to go through in all the aspects of their game.
“The academy elevated them to a position where they are in or near contention for selection into the senior squad but they still need a lot of work on their games”, said Hampson. The effect that players like Brendon Louw and Rian Botha had on the academy squad of 2011 was immense, having had experience at a higher level and it being their second year in the academy and these 4 players are the type of cricketers who will have a positive impact on a group of very inexperienced cricketers being able to lift the standard of cricket at training and matches which will rub off on the other players.
The group is: Kobus Scholtz (NMMU CC), Glenton Stuurman (Harlequins Forces CC), Bradley Carolus (Pacaltsdorp United CC), Bronwill Goeda (Knysna Cavaliers CC), Gurshwin Sparks (NMMU CC), Dumisa Ngquambuza (Bongolethu CC), Lee Henry Meyer (Union Stars CC) Lorenzo Godfrey (Bongolethu CC), Marcello Piedt (Union Stars CC), James Marais (Mossel Bay CC), Aldin Daniels (NMMU CC), Pienaar Buys (Mossel Bay CC), Curtley Kannemeyer (NMMU CC) and Lukhole Sporgta (Bongolethu CC)
