Second inning collapse cost SWD Emerging team

SWD U/19's batting hero, Ruan Stander

The SWD U/19 team will be bitterly disappointed after they failed to pull off a victory overEasternProvincein a CSA U/19 Three Day match that was played inPort Elizabethover the past weekend. The SWD youngsters dominated the most part of the match but an unbeaten 8th wicket partnership for the 65 runs saw the home team home for a three wicket win.

SWD, who were put in to bat made an impressive 270 (all out) after good contributions from Ruan Stander (74), Morne Visagie (59) and Stephan Gous (47*). Thanks to hostile fast bowling from SWD’s SA Schools bowling hero, Marcello Piedt (5/62), EP was restricted to 157 in their first innings. He was well supported by Kobus Scholtz (2/27) and Lance Roelfse (2/5).

SWD, with a handy lead of 113 runs on the first innings had a nightmare batting performance in their second innings and only managed to make 64, with Scholtz scoring 42. With their second innings score at 113/7, with a target of 177, SWD had a sniff of a certain victory but an unbeaten partnership for the eighth wicket saw EP home. Scholtz (4/62) and Otniel Baartman (2/30) were the pick of the bowlers.
