SWD cricketers take on Free State in title decider

The last round of matches in the Cricket South Africa provincial challenge competition will be played this weekend and the result of two matches will determine the destiny of the trophy. Griqualand West have completed all their matches and are leading the log at 151.70 points followed by Gauteng on 140.94 points. SWD are in third place on 140.92 points and an outright victory or even a good haul of bonus points can secure the men from the Southern Cape the title. A first innings score of 450 (in 100 overs) and nine first innings wickets will be 11 bonus points but then Border will need to restrict Gauteng in their battle in East London.

SWD will also be holding thumbs for their main strike bowler, Gurshwin Rabie, who is struggling with a groin injury to be fit and ready for the match. Douglas Baartman will join the team in Bloemfontein as a precaution should Rabie not be fit for the occasion.Free State, who are leading the one day log, will also be desperate for a win in the limited over match on Sunday to secure the Limited Over Challenge Trophy.

The SWD team for the weekend is: Ross McMillan (captain), Waldo Lategan, Burton de Wett, Christiaan Jonker, Kobus Scholtz, Brendon Louw, Pieter Stuurman, Phabhama Fojela, Wessel Hartslief, Rhupino Plaatjies, Gurshwin Rabie, Erinn Ewerts, Christo van Schalkwyk and Douglas Baartman.
