UNION STARS QUALIFIES FOR CSA CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
Union Stars Cricket Club, the premier league champion from the South Western Districts, successfully qualified for the Cricket South Africa National Club Championships that will takes place in Pretoria from 23-27 April.
The men from Oudtshoorn had a tough battle in the qualifying fixture that was played last week in Pietermaritzburg last weekend when they defeated Easton Cricket Club, the KwaZulu Natal Inland by 8 wickets. In a high scoring match, Union Stars, who batted first managed to score 278 runs thanks to some useful contributions from Erinn Ewerts (70), Pieter Stuurman (48) and Rhupino Plaatjies (35). The onslaught from Easton was led by James Bryant (99) but they fell short by 8 runs to allow Union Stars to advance to their second club champs tournament. Rhupino Plaatjies (3/38), Douglas Baartman (2/55) and Erinn Ewerts 2/44 was the pick of the SWD bowlers.
