SWD Eagles hammer Border at Outeniqua Park

The SWD Eagles enjoyed almost total control as they hammered the Border Bulldogs 46-8 (half-time 27-8) in their Absa Currie Cup First Division match at Outeniqua Park in George on Friday.

The hosts ran in six tries to one while flyhalf Kurt Coleman ended with a personal tally of 16 points courtesy of five conversions and two penalties.

The Eagles made the early running on a cool, clear evening in front of a 1 000-strong crowd and left wing Alshaun Bock gave an indication of what was to come when he dotted down in the first minute for a converted try.

Coleman then kicked two penalties before fullback Elric van Vuuren crossed for another converted try as the Eagles raced into a 20-0 lead after just 24 minutes.

Loosehead prop Jean Jacques Rossouw then barged his way over for a converted try before Border finally struck back when wing Chrislyn van Schalkwyk scooted over for an unconverted score with five minutes left in the half.

Border right wing Ntabeni Dukisa then succeeded with a penalty on the stroke of half time as Border limped to the break trailing their opponents by 19 points.

Unfortunately for the visitors it proved to be their last points of the match as the Eagles ran riot in the second half.

Flank Dumisani Meslane grabbed the bonus-point try in the 52nd minute before SWD wrapped up an emphatic victory with further tries from scrumhalf Johan Herbst and replacement flank Cornelius Rautenbach.
