The Why Honey ? Project is aimed at training and educating people of the community to become self-sustaining bee farmers and assist them to achieve this goal over a period of two years.
Emphasis is placed on the use of natural resources such as the bees and fynbos which also means that the protection of the bees form an integral part of the project.
The purpose of the project is also to make available raw natural honey out of the immediate area which contains unbelievable health benefits including relief from sinuses and allergies. Further to the above it is also important to introduce people to the wonderful world of bees and why protecting them is so important.
There is currently fourteen up and coming bee farmers from Suurbraak to Knysna. In Mossel Bay the Why Honey ? Co-operation was formed to enable the bee farmers to have a proper share and ownership in the project.
