Athletics SWD held their annual Cross Country Championships onSaturday 18 August 2012 at Olympia School, Pacaltsdorp. The championships was a combined event with the SWD Schools.
We received entries from all the regions in our province – all competing for the top positions in each category. Athletics SWD and SWD Schools will today select two teams that will participate in this weekend’s Western Cape Cross Country Championships that will be held at the Drakenstein Correctional Facility in Paarl. With our sponsorship from DECTI Raising-the-bar the athletes received position medals and also certificates for the first 10 positions. It was a good event, in great weather conditions and fantastic overall performances.
The juniors overall performed very well against each other on the wet and muddy course. On senior level it was a definite highlight to see three of ASWD’s top cross country exports participate in their various senior categories, i.e. Lloyd Bosman (4km) and Merlin Klaaste and Ettienne Plaatjies in the 12km.
Merlin recently representedSouth Africaat the 2011 IAAF World Cross Country Championships in PuntaUmbria. Lloyd is the current SA Men 23 champion in the 4km (2011 ASA Cross Country Championships).
