AfriForum and Well-known Personalities announce Massive Campaign against Farm Murders

Gerrie Pretorius

AfriForum, together with a number of the country’s famous artists, will tomorrow announce in Pretoria a dozen projects against farm murders. Steve Hofmeyr, Chris Chameleon, Bobby van Jaarsveld, Karlien van Jaarsveld, Kurt Darren, Pieter Koen, Adam Tas and Gerrie Pretorius are some of the artists who will attend the function together with several opinion shapers from within civil society.

The campaign is aimed at getting government to declare and handle farm murders as a priority crime and to institute specialist units for rural safety. Ernst Roets, AfriForum’s Deputy CEO, explained that these projects would be implemented in local communities, as well as at national and international level.

The documentary, War of the Flea, will be screened at the function. The documentary was produced by Rian van der Walt, and it is an inquiry into the possible causes of farm attacks, and possible remedies for it. The artists will play an important role during proceedings by declaring their views and to affirm in writing their support for AfriForum’s demands.
