Police in the Southern Cape have opened a culpable homicide docket following this morning’s accident on the N2 between Riversdale and Heidelberg. A car crashed into an overturned truck, killing a man and an 11-year-old boy.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the truck driver probably lost control of his vehicle before it overturned and rolled. The N2 has been closed as the truck is blocking the road and traffic is being diverted. Traffic authorities are waiting for a specialised tow truck from Cape Town to remove the truck.
The accident occurred two kilometres from Riversdale. A car with two adults and five children on board collided with the truck and was trapped underneath it. Two people – one adult and a child, were declared dead at the scene.
The truck driver and the occupants of the car were taken to theRiversdaleHospital, while two others were transported via helicopter to a hospital in George.
Traffic on the N2 was diverted to an adjacent road. Traffic authorities say it is still unclear when the road will be re-opened. They are waiting for a specialised tow truck from Cape Town to remove the truck.
