CAPE TOWN- Western Cape police arrested 17 drunk drivers during 24 roadblocks held in the province this weekend.
Traffic officials also apprehended four intoxicated pedestrians.
“The highest reading recorded was 1,05 mg/l and that was in Knysna,” said Provincial Traffic Chief Kenny Africa.
“We also arrested seven others; one was an illegal immigrant in theMosselBayregion and four drunk pedestrians in the Oudtshoorn region.”
Africasaid two speedsters were also fined.
“The highest speed was 207 km/h in Beaufort West and 158km/l in 120 zone inMosselBay.”
Africasaid the group will appear in court on Monday.
Motorists have also been urged to be cautious and to obey the rules of the road following a fatal accident on Saturday.
Africaconfirmed that three people were killed in a collision on the N2 nearCaledon.
He said the accident occurred near the Villersdorp turn-off on Saturday.
“Two vehicles collided head on.
“One vehicle burnt out and the occupant in the vehicle died.
“The two occupants in the other vehicle also died.”
