SWD ANNOUNCES TEAM FOR OPENING ENCOUNTER
The SWD cricket team will kick-off their campaign for the 2012/13 season this weekend when they take on Western Province at the Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn in the Cricket South Africa Provincial Challenge.
SWD will field a formidable line-up for their opening encounter with four newcomers in the starting eleven. Luthando Mnyanda (from Border), Glen Addicot (from KZN Inland) and Adrian McLaren (from Griquas) don’t need any introduction to this format of the game but will have a huge responsibility to provide stability in the SWD batting line-up. Both Christiaan Jonker and Gurshwin Rabie were released by Warriors coach, Piet Botha, for this match and their presence will definitely boost the home team’s confidence. Marcello Piedt, who represented the SA Schools team in 2011, and was part of theSWDAcademyduring the past winter will be rewarded with a debut call up and will share the new ball with Rabie.
Reece Williams, a former Warriors front line bowler will make his SWD debut in the 50 over match that will be played on Sunday. Ross McMillan, the most experienced captain on this level, will again be the captain for the season.
WesternProvince, who defeated KZN Inland the past weekend, will be a tough challenge for the home side. In Beurin Hendricks and Monde Zondeki they will have a quality bowling attack and solid batting line-up.
The SWD squad for the weekend is: Ross McMillan (captain), Luthando Mnyanda, Adrian McLaren, Christiaan Jonker, Glen Addicot, Brendon Louw, Kobus Scholtz, Douglas Baartman, Phabhama Fojela, Marcello Piedt, Gurshwin Rabie and Glenton Stuurman (12th man). Gareth Dukes and Reece Williams will be added for the limited over match.
