The SWD cricket team bounced back to take the honours in the limited over match against Boland in the Cricket South Africa Provincial Challenge match that was played in Paarl this past weekend. In the Three Day match, Ross McMillan and his team had one of their worst performances in a long time and lost by an innings and 72 runs.
SWD won the toss in the limited over match and put Boland in to bat. Thanks to excellent bowling performances by Gurshwin Rabie (3/12 in 8 overs), Gareth Dukes (3/36 in 8 overs) and Christiaan Jonker (3/29 in 7.2 overs) the home team were dismissed for a modest 128 in the 43rd over. In order to claim a bonus point win, SWD made a huge chase and in the process lost seven wickets to secure a three wicket victory after 23.2 of their allotted 50 overs. Glen Addicot (38; 41 balls, 2×6, 2×4) and Christiaan Jonker (29; 32 balls, 2×6, 2×4) were both in an attacking mode with the bat.
In the three day match, Boland, who were put in to bat, made a massive 403 in their first innings thanks to a career best innings by Keagan Petersen (187). He and Godfrey Stevens (61) put together a partnership of 145 runs for the 2nd wicket. Rabie (4/80) was the pick of the SWD bowlers. SWD, were dismissed for 172 in their first innings with only the captain, Ross McMillan (59) and Glen Addicot that added significant contributions with the bat. Carl Raubenheimer (4/42) and Ockert Erasmus (4/33) were in fine form with the ball. The SWD follow-on innings was not much better and they were dismissed for only 139 with McMillan top scorer with 60. Spin bowler, Erasmus (5/21) was again in great form to record his career best bowling figures.
The SWD squad to play KwaZulu Natal Inland in Pietermaritzburg this weekend is: Ross McMillan (captain), Luthando Mnyanda, Adrian McLaren, Christiaan Jonker, Glen Addicot, Brendon Louw, Kobus Scholtz, Douglas Baartman, Phabhama Fojela, Marcello Piedt and Gurshwin Rabie. Pieter Stuurman , Gareth Dukes and Reece Williams will be added for the limited over match.
