SWD TO TAKE ON EASTERN PROVINCE

After a very frustrating and disappointed trip to Pietermaritzburg the SWD cricket team will be back at home where they will faceEasternProvinceat the Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn as from Thursday in the Cricket South Africa Provincial Challenge. The SWD team will need to up their game drastically if they want to build on the achievements of the previous season.
In the Three Day match against KZN Inland last weekend rain and bad light prevented a possible result after no play was possible on the first day and only 35 overs were bowled on the second day. SWD, that were put in to bat scored 232 (all out) with only Luthando Mnyanda (48) that made a significant contribution with the bat. KZN Inland responded with 151/1 when the umpires called off the match.
In the limited over match SWD were put into bat and was stunned with a hat trick by Bradley Barends (5/34). Only Christiaan Jonker (82 from 75 balls) offered resistance as SWD were bowled out for 134. KZN Inland, thanks to an aggressive innings by Divan van Wyk (80*) from 57 balls blasted the required target (138/0) from only 17.2 overs to ensure a commanding 10 wicket victory.
SWD will need to gain back confidence on all levels of the game and victories in both matches againstEasternProvinceis not negotiable. The selectors will also carefully consider the various options when they select the teams for these matches.
