SWD DEFEAT NAMIBIA
The SWD senior cricket team recorded their sixth victory in the CSA Provincial Three Day Challenge competition this past weekend when they defeated Namibia by 32 runs at the REC in Oudtshoorn. The chance for the men from the Southern Cape to clinch the competition got a serious drawback however, when both Gauteng and North West also recorded outright victories over the weekend, and SWD will enter their last match against Griquas in Kimberly at the 4th position of the log.

SWD is at 134.94 points (12 matches) below Gauteng (156.06 – 12 matches), North West (158 – 12 matches) and Free State (137 points – 13 matches).
SWD struggled in their first innings after being put in to bat and only managed to score 160 which resulted in a low bonus point tally. Brendon Louw (66; 52 balls; 12×4) was the top local batsman. Namibia (at 182/3) were in a strong position thanks to a century from Russel Pritchers (114) but were dismissed for 221 thanks to good bowling from Marcello Piedt (2/35), Gurshwin Rabie (2/46) and Gareth Dukes (2/24).
SWD, with a deficit of 61 runs had a better performance in their second innings and scored 218 with Glen Addicot (58; 1×6, 8×4) and Gareth Dukes (54; 1×6, 6×4) the main contributors with the bat. Rabie (3/45) and Piedt (3/20) produced a match winning bowling performance as Namibia were dismissed for only 125. Douglas Baartman (2/8) also offered good support as SWD was victorious and earned 15.2 bonus points.
Namibia won the T20 match by 10 wickets after SWD were dismissed for only 113 (19 overs) after a disappointing batting performance with only Ross McMillan (25 from 16 balls) to add value with the bat. The visitors reached the winning target with all ten wickets in hand after 14.2 overs.
