Western Cape Government Health and the organisation Rotary International will as part of a national initiative host three day Family Health Jamborees at over 30 venues around the province.
The Family Health initiative forms part of Western Cape Government Health’s goal of creating an environment not only of healthy people, but also of people who seek holistic wellness through active prevention of illness. The Family Days will create the opportunity for families to access preventative health services at venues close to their homes.
Although the services at the venues may differ in minor aspects the majority of venues will offer:
· Chronic Disease counselling
o Blood pressure evaluation
o Blood glucose level testing and counselling
o BMI and Dietary Management advice
o Adherence and compliance advice
· Polio and Measles Immunisations
o This will form part of the current campaign which is offering booster immunisation for all children under the age of five years.
o Weight height and sight evaluation
· HIV Counselling and Testing
· Men’s Health:
o MMC (male medical circumcision) counselling and booking at closest venue
o Signs and Symptoms of Prostate cancer
· Condom distribution
· TB Screening and referral
· Women’s Health
o Breast risk assessment and referral
o Instruction on self-breast exam
o Family Planning Information and distribution
· Youth
o Being Condom Wise: Birth control options and choosing the best method for yourself
· Many venues are offering other services such oral health exams and eye tests.
The Family Health Days will take place on 9, 10 and 11 May at Clinics and Community Halls around the province.

I wish to encourage people to take along the whole family and spend a little while at the Health Day venue closest to you. Prevention of illness remains the most cost effective manner in which to help you live an active and meaningful life.”
