Gourmets & Gourmands 2013 – these diamonds are forever
What is it about a diamond that makes it such a coveted pursuit? Is it the sparkle? Is it the unique characteristics that make no two alike? Is it the ‘preciousness’ that makes it more than just a shiny piece of compressed carbon? Or is it the time and patience put into its formation?
If your answer is all of the above then you will surely agree that the Gourmets & Gourmands 2013 theme “Diamonds are Forever” is a perfect fit when it comes to the Carpe Diem School, whose learners are the beneficiaries of the funds raised at this annual event. At this wonderful establishment time and patience are attentively afforded by parents and teachers to the educational, emotional and spiritual care of these special needs children. There can be no doubt that the resulting individual formed and nurtured with love will be transformed into a beautiful, strong and unique being. Bright. Distinctive. Precious.
The 2013 Gourmets & Gourmands, made possible by Hartman’s culinary feast will once again see 19 restaurants and 19 wine farms combining expertise and experience to create food and wine pairings to delight every guest’s palate. And with a theme as delectable as the incomparable, suave and sophisticated Mr Bond, James Bond in one of his most formidable screen appearances, guests can undoubtedly look forward to an evening of sensory excess (given the restaurants have been afforded their licence to thrill, of course).
As a school that only receives a minimal subsidy per learner from the government, the school needs to lean heavily on donations and fundraising events such as Gourmets & Gourmands run by and on behalf of the school. A passionate headmaster, dedicated staff members, an extremely driven PTA as well as generous benefactors like Hartman’s ensure that they don’t just stand and wait for funds to magically appear. They take the lead, come up with wonderful initiatives and run with it. Through the years the school has raised thousands of Rands towards constantly improving the quality of education and facilities at the school.
This year the goal is to build a therapy room with the funds raised. The therapy room will accommodate a psychologist, physiotherapist, speech therapist and occupational therapist to improve the physical and emotional wellness of the learners even further.
On 24 August 2013, the Carpe Diem School hall will be transformed into a glamorous oasis filled with captivating aromas, beautifully dressed guests and styled (shaken, not stirred) to make Mr Bond feel right at home. The true ambience of the evening will however be evident between the lines of the theme of eternal diamonds – laying the foundations to make even more diamonds sparkle forever.
