The second round of Western Cape Government’s Immunisation Campaign starts on Tuesday 18 June 2013. Round two will only include polio immunisations for children aged 0 to 59 months. It is important that the public assist the Department in eradicating this disease by making sure that all children between the age 0 to 59 months get this extra booster dose. The campaign runs until 28 June 2013, and falls within the school holidays. Parents are therefore asked to take their children for immunisation before going on holiday.
Western Cape Minister of Health, Mr Botha, said: ‘We encourage our mothers and child carers to take their babies to the nearest clinic for the polio immunisations. In this way we protect our children against this debilitating disease and ensure a healthy future for them. It is when you take responsibility to help your children that government can help you. We are better together.’
Children attending crèche will be immunised at their crèches during the first week of the campaign before school holidays. Therefore parents are asked to complete and return consent forms obtained from the schools. Parents whose children are not at crèche should take their children to the local clinic or participating private health facility for immunisation.
