Building and running its business applications in the cloud has given online trading platform Cambist access to top-class global technology – and enabled it to go live within a month.
“Cambist is a completely new concept – it’s never been done before in South Africa,” says Systems Officer Hilda Steyn. ”We wanted a world-class platform that could be used easily by anyone, anywhere in the world, and a strong partnership with a software development company that could support our vision.”
The online trading platform is a project of OneLaw, one of South Africa’s leading service providers to debt collecting attorneys. It allows members of the public to buy and sell active debt contracts and to track their portfolios.
To build the systems foundation Cambist needed, OneLaw approached Framework One, a software house that specialises in developing cloud-based business process automation systems based on Windows Azure services.
“We needed top-class technology, a high level of security and a great user experience,” says Steyn. “Many of our customers are not computer experts and we wanted to offer them a platform that would be easy and reliable to use. Since they live all over the world and the platform is being used 24/7, we also needed very high levels of uptime.”
Thanks to a long-standing existing relationship between OneLaw and Framework One, Steyn says the Cambist team already knew a cloud-based system was their best way forward – and once the decision had been made, things moved very quickly.
“We were able to go live with the user front-end within a month,” says Steyn. “The system automatically generates all the legal documents required, and manages the reconciliation between bank payments and transactions on the platform. We are continuing to add and change functionality to enhance the system.”
Steyn says Framework One’s experience and expertise were integral to the success of the project: “I have worked with many developers before and I have never found the commitment I have seen at Framework One, nor have I found the level of expertise. Framework One go beyond just developing – they contribute ideas as well. There is initiative I haven’t found in the past with other developers.”
