The culling continued on Strictly Come Dancing as Connie Ferguson and Brandon Eilers were booted out of the competition. Judges cited significant balance issues.
In an evening dominated by the technical Viennese Waltz and the energetic Cha Cha, Connie Ferguson and Brandon Eilers failed to impress the judges in the dance off against Mpho Popps and Nombulelo Hlathi.
With the judges having demanded more from the couples, the viewers were equally ruthless with their voting as nothing less than perfection will do from here on.
The remaining couples going forward are Thapelo Mokoena and Hayley Bennet; Joy Anstey and Tsholo Moholwane; Graeme Richards and Lindsey Muckle; Lalla Hirayama and Grant Esterhuizen; and Mpho Popps and Nombulelo Hlathi.
Actor Thapelo Mokoena and Hayley Bennet kicked off proceedings with an enjoyable and well received Cha Cha…theme or no theme.
With the judges having demanded more va va voom from them, dark horses for the title, Jay Anstey and Tsholo Moholwane delivered a much improved performance. Although there was a well received story to the performance – the judges still demand more dancing.
Graeme Richards and Lindsey Muckle have already survived a dance off in the competition and this week they took on the Viennese Waltz. It was rich in theatrics that also impressed the judges who commented on improved footwork and a strong frame.
Pace setters Lalla Hirayama and Grant Esterhuizen have the unique problem of having to live up to their lofty standard, they took to the dance floor with an elegant, graceful and impeccably timed routine.
Survivors from last week, Mpho Popps and Nombulelo Hlathi followed their lacklustre performance last week with hot song choice and very entertaining moves.
Connie Ferguson and Brandon Eilers’ emotional performance from last week was all but forgotten as their enjoyable Viennese Waltz was criticized on technical grounds.
Potential favourites Zakeeya Patel and Ryan Hammond rounded off the evening with the only Jive routine that while entertaining, was below par from their usual high standards.
With dancing ability quite clearly counting more than viewer popularity, couples know they cannot just rely on the multitude of fans to pull them through; only hard work and determination will see them progress in the competition.
At the end of the night the leader board read as follows;
Lalla Hirayama & Grant Esterhuizen 24
Zakeeya Patel & Ryan Hammond 21
Thapelo Mokoena & Hayley Bennet 20
Graeme Richards & Lindsey Muckle 20
Mpho Popps & Nombulelo Hlathi 19
Jay Anstey & Tsholo Moholwane 18
Connie Ferguson & Brandon Eilers 18
Strictly Come Dancing airs on SABC3 Wednesdays from 20:00 to 22:00.
