Johannesburg, 21 August 2013 – With less than two months left in the competition, the JSE Liberty Investment Challenge announces its July winners. The latest winners are Lobethal Independent School in the Income portfolio with an income of R 14,737.83 for the month; Reddam House Atlantic Seaboard was the winner in the Equity portfolio and Montarena Secondary School in the Spectacular portfolio category.
“We are extremely pleased to announce the July competition winners and congratulate those teams that have scooped top place this past month. Competition is fierce with over 1600 teams competing in this year’s school’s Challenge,” says Idris Seedat, Manager: CSI in the JSE’s Education Division.
The Income portfolio winners were “Lobza Diggers” from the Kwa-Zulu Natal Midlands, with learners Thembelihle Dlamini, Daniel Moll, Sakhumuzi Mtshali and Siyanada Zimba. The Spectacular portfolio team winners were “RM 22” from Chatsworth with team members Kimeshnee Lutchmiah, Cherise Devnarain, Prakashnee Nydoo and Prinscille Naidoo scoring highest in this category; and winners of the Equity portfolio, the “Gogreen Team” from Seapoint with learners Hlumelo Swartz, Jordan Gozzett and Miguel Pera,”
The Challenge runs three distinct streams and teams must select the “risk” portfolio that they wish to take part in. The options are Speculator Portfolio (high risk), Equity Growth Portfolio (moderate risk) and Income Portfolio (low risk). These different games allow participants to select their appropriate wealth management strategy, testing their investment skills against peers.
This year’s competition has five top prizes for the annual winners valued at R60 000 per portfolio in the schools Challenge while the university Challenge has three top prizes also valued at R60 000 plus an all-expenses paid trip to an international stock exchange. The school team with the best performance for the month in each portfolio wins R3000.
The competition ends on 27 September, after which auditing will take place and the winners announced at the award ceremony held at the JSE in October 2013.
