Exactly one year after the maiden release of the Tamboerskloof Katharien Syrah Rosé, Kleinood is delighted to announce the achievement of receiving a silver medal for the best designed Rosé at the Harpers Design Awards 2013. There were only two medals awarded in total for this category and given that the other was a bronze, this puts the Tamboerskloof Katharien as the overall best performer in this category.

Kleinood Tamboerskloof label. Tamboerskloof Katharien Rosé was named after the only daughter of the family. The name, Katharien, appears on the front label instead of the vintage. The image of a girl playing the clarinet on the neck tag is that of a sculpture made of her by her maternal grandmother.
“The Tamboerskloof Katharien design was rewarded for what was a simple, but expertly executed label. Clean, clear and just very inviting”, said the judges.
The Tamboerskloof wine labels were designed in such a way as to honestly portray the Kleinood philosophy in every respect. The front label bears the name and vintage of the wine. The back label states its provenance. The sole insignia depicts a sheep bearing a flag, derived from the de Villiers family crest. The only differences in the design of the three wines lie in the colour of the lettering, the closures on the bottles and the tag around the neck of the Rosé.
Notes of mixed berry on the palate generously support the strawberry and fruit salad aromas on the nose of the recently released Tamboerskloof Katharien Rosé 2013. It pairs well with fresh summer salads, salmon, prawns or chicken, soft cheese and sushi.
Kleinood, home to Tamboerskloof wines and de Boerin Olive Oil, have also released the new vintages of the already established and highly acclaimed Tamboerskloof Syrah 2009, Tamboerskloof Viognier 2013 as well as their award-winning de Boerin Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
The classic Rhône style Tamboerskloof Syrah 2008 was awarded 93 points by the Wine Advocate,
4½ stars by John Platter and a Silver Medal from the International Wine and Spirits Competition. The ruby coloured Tamboerskloof Syrah 2009 is well balanced and elegant. The complex and inviting nose of black currant, fruit and violets supported by white pepper, fynbos and spicy flavours is confirmed by a well-balanced palate, firm tannins and a lingering peppery aftertaste.
All the much-lauded qualities of the Tamboerskloof Viognier of earlier vintages, receiving 4½ stars in the Platter’s Wine Guide, are present in the Tamboerskloof Viognier 2013. It is a beautiful, white-gold coloured Viognier with a rich and creamy mouthfeel. The melon, papaya, citrus blossom, mango and pollen flavours on the nose are well supported by apricot, ripe peach and citrus on the palate.

Kleinood de Boerin Extra Virgin Olive Oil has been awarded Gold for the fourth year running at the SA Olive Awards. Added to the new release trio of wines is the de Boerin Extra Virgin Olive Oil 2013 De Boerin is a full-bodied and elegant, but mild to intense oil with a nose of green olives and mown hay. The dominating taste is strong and grassy with hints of artichoke, sorrel, green tomatoes and an enjoyable peppery aftertaste.
