The SWD cricket team traveled to Johannesburg to play Gauteng in the opening round of the new season.

Skipper Ross McMillan won the toss on Thursday morning and put Gauteng in to bat in their CSA 3 Day fixture.  SWD had Gauteng in trouble at 5 down for a little over a hundred by lunch.  Unfortunately for the visitors, Shaylin Pillay lead a spirited fight back which allowed the home side to post a competitive 357.  Gurshwin Rabie was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3/67.  SWD struggled to 221 all out in reply with only Waldo Lategan [55] getting among the runs.  Gauteng made a sporting declaration at 184/5 which left SWD chasing a target 321 for victory.  Rabie again returned the best figures [2/53].  Ross McMillan [97] and Luthando Mnyanda [73] made a positive start, but SWD unfortunately came up 44 runs short of their target.

In the One Day match played on Sunday Gauteng again batted first and again posted a very competitive 269/7 in the allotted 45 over.  New signing Lonwabo Rondolo and skipper Ross McMillan bagged 3 scalps each.  This time the SWD batsmen made sure they chased down this total with 4 balls to spare.  Waldo Lategan [53] completed a very productive weekend with the bat with useful support from McMillan, Adrian McLaren, Mnyanda and Garteh Dukes.
