The SWD cricket recorded their first victory of the season when they defeated Namibia by 89 runs in a CSA Provincial Challenge encounter in Windhoek.  The SWD bagged 18.22 bonus points from the match and progressed to the eight place on the CSA Provincial Challenge log. 

SWD who won the toss and elected to bat first posted 311 runs in their first innings.  Two valuable partnerships were vital in achieving this total.  Brendon Louw (90; 97 balls; 2×6, 11×4) and Ross McMillan (29) put together a partnership of 107 runs for the 1st wicket whilst Marcello Piedt (52; 92 balls, 5×4) and Glen Addicot (54; 1×6, 6×4) added a vital 102 runs for the 8th wicket.

Namibia was bowled out for 155 runs in their first innings with Gurshwin Rabie (3/60), Marcello Piedt (2/26), Kobus Scholtz (2/23) and Lonwabo Rodolo (2/23) excelled with the ball.  With a lead of 156 SWD opted to not enforce the follow-on.

SWD declared their second innings at stumps on the second day on 196/6 after a good parthership of 74 runs for the 7th wicket between Gareth Dukes (48*) and Kobus Scholtz (32*). Louw made 36.

Namibia – chasing 358 – came with a strong challenge when Xander Pritchers (65) and Stephen Baard (59) posted a partnership for the first wicket of 113 runs but they were eventually dismissed for 263.  Rabie (2/58), Rodolo (3/56) and Piedt (4/69) were the pick of the bowlers.

SWD’s next match is against Free State in Bloemfontein from 21-24 October 2013.
