The SWD Women’s team recorded their first victory of the season on Saturday when they defeated Kei by 7 wickets in a CSA Women’s Competition fixture that was played at Mthatha. The SWD ladies however could not maintain the momentum as they went down by 51 runs against Border in East London on Sunday.
In the Kei fixture the home side was dismissed for only 57 after 21.2 overs thanks to an excellent bowling by the experienced Carina Crause (4/15) and skipper, Haroldene Rhodes (3/14). SWD only needed 12 overs to reach the winning target (58/3) to record a seven wicket victory and full match points.
In Sunday’s match Border, who was put in to bat, scored 169 (48.2 overs) and it was again Crause (4/42) and Rhodes (2/23) together with Miceala Andrews (2/25) that impressed with the ball. The SWD batters failed in their run chase and were dismissed in the 46th over for 118 with only Janet Winster (33) that impressed with the bat.
SWD is hosting Eastern Province at the REC Ground on Sunday and the ladies from the Southern Cape will be desperate to, as the previous season, defeat the visitors from Port Elizabeth in Oudtshoorn. The match starts at 09:30.
