JOHANNESBURG – As the 2014 general elections draws nearer, various political parties are stepping up their campaigns.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) visited the Eden District Municipality while the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) visited Mitchells Plain yesterday.
IFP president Mangosuthu Buthelezi says he was shocked by some of the social ills plaguing the community and encouraged residents to speak out.
Meanwhile, DA leader Helen Zille says she received a warm welcome in the Eden district.
“We start off at a taxi rank in Knysna and discussed the upcoming elections with commuters. I then went to address a public meeting in Knysna after which I went to a model housing development.”
Earlier this week, the DA named Mamphela Ramphele as its presidential candidate.
The ANC described the move as a pre-election political stunt and ‘rent-a-black’ strategy.
