The SWD senior cricket team had a frustrating and disappointing visit to Cape Town the past weekend. The three day match against Western Province ended in a draw whilst the men from the Southern Cape disappointingly lost the Twenty 20 match after posting a record total.
In the three day match, Western Province, who batted first, scored 188 in an innings that was disrupted when umpires had to stop play due to a dangerous wicket. SWD replied with 189 – a lead of one run where after Western Province was at 250/3 at close of play on day two. Unfortunately no play was possible on the third day after a wet patch occurred on the wicket when the covers were removed in the morning and the match ended in a draw.
In the T20 match SWD, thanks to a brilliant 111 partnership for the 2nd wicket between Ross McMillan (80 from 46 balls) and Adrian McLaren (60 from 48 balls) posted a record score of 182/4. Western Province replied with 185/4 to secure a six wicket victory with 7 balls to spare.
