BILATERAL DISCUSSIONS: SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT, WESTERN CAPE PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT (GEORGE) AND MUNICIPAL HEALTH SERVICES, MANAGEMENT SERVICES, EDEN DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY
A long overdue meeting between the Social Development Department, Western Cape Provincial Government (George Office), Municipal Health Services and Management Services of Eden District Municipality finally took place on Wednesday, 5 February 2014, in the Joint Operation s Centre (JOC), at Eden District Municipality’s Head office, York Street, George.
The meeting headed by Mr Kenneth Mazaleni, Mr Reggie Naik, Ms Una Petersen (Social Development Services), and Mr Johan Compion together with a team of regional heads of the Municipal Health Section and Environmental Health Practitioners, was held to streamline working relationships between the two spheres of government, as far as the operations and activities around child care facilities (crèches), were concerned. Lengthy discussions included issues relating to the Child Care Act; Health Clearance Certificates; Health Reports as supporting document; Validation of Health Certificates; time frame on reports requested and liaison between Social Development and Municipal Health Services, were of the urgent matters that needed clarification.
During the discussions it was also agreed upon that future ongoing meetings are of outmost importance and that all relevant role players, like the B-Municipalities, must form part of these meetings to have a cooperative approach of rendering an acceptable service to the desperate communities within Eden region.
