The SWD cricket team is determined to restore some pride in the last three matches in the CSA Provincial competition when they take on Boland at the Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn this weekend. They will be confident after a great come-back victory against KwaZulu Natal Inland recently but will also be motivated to show some consistency in both the three day and Twenty20 format.
In the three day competition the team of Ross McMillan is having their most disappointing season since the current format was introduced. They are currently in the 12th position (out of 14) at 78.76 points with three victories under their belt.
Outright victories in their last three matches can take them to the top half of the log but to achieve that they will need to record solid first innings batting performances. The men from the Southern Cape only manage to record 15.76 batting bonus points this season which equals and average first innings score of 175. In the T20 competition they will need to won all the remaining matches – of which two must be with bonus points to qualify for the final.
The availability of their Warriors franchise players, Christiaan Jonker and Gurshwin Rabie, will boost the team whilst the form of Lyndon Volkwyn must also be encouraging. Both Marcello Piedt (broken hand) and Kobus Scholtz (recovery from a shoulder operation) will be out of action for the rest of the season.
The SWD squad for the weekend is: Ross McMillan (capt), Waldo Lategan, Luthando Mnyanda, Glen Addicot, Sammy-Joe Avontuur, Pieter Stuurman, Brendon Louw, Siviwe Gidana, Douglas Baartman, Lyndon Volkwyn, Marcello Piedt, Gurshwin Rabie, Adrian McLaren, Christiaan Jonker, Hanno Kotze, Justin Jordaan, Neil Hornbuckle and Gareth Dukes.
