HPV campaign starts today

Health teams across the Eden district will visit all public and special education schools during the next two weeks to immunise all Grade 4 girls who are 9 years and older against the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is a viral infection that can cause cervical cancer. This vaccination prevents the HPV infection in girls.

“We now have the opportunity to stop this illness; all that is required is effective vaccination. Western Cape Government Health will help you do this. Our health teams will be visiting all public and special education schools in the province during February and again in September of 2014 to administer free HPV vaccination to girls in Grade four in 2014 and who have already turned nine and older.”  states Minister Theuns Botha, Western Cape Minister of Health, who is a father and grandfather.

Parents must sign consent forms and the HPV vaccination card.  Make sure your daughter is at school when the immunisation team comes. Girls who have missed this opportunity can visit a private health care facility for the vaccine.

The campaign dates are:

  • Round 1 : 10 March – 11 April 2014
  • Round 2: 29 September 2014 – 24 October 2014
