The SWD Cricket team had mixed successes during the previous weekend encounters with Boland in the CSA Provincial Three Day Challenge. In the matches that were played at the REC Ground in Oudtshoorn Boland won a nail-biting content in the three day match by 9 runs whilst SWD were victorious by 7 wickets in the T20 match.
In the three day match the SWD bowling unit, led by Lyndon Volkwyn (4/46), put up a good performance in dismissing Boland for only 154. In their first innings SWD failed to capitalize with only Sammy-Joe Avontuur (63) that made an impression to secure a lead of 43 with an innings total of 197. Boland, in their second innings posted 245 thanks to a fine innings by Lotle Sesele (90) to set SWD a target 202 for victory. SWD (193 all out) fall 9 runs short of the target with only Brendon Louw (55) and Luthando Mnyanda (45) that posted reasonable scores. Ockert Erasmus (7/62) with an exceptional spin-bowling performance was the bowling hero for the winning team.
In the T20 match it was a partnership of 66 runs from 43 balls between a devastating Christiaan Jonker (44; 27 balls, 4×6, 1×4) and a solid innings by Ross McMillan (39*; 36 balls, 1×6, 2×4) for the third wicket that secured victory for the home side. SWD, batting second, chased down the target of 137 with five balls to spare.
