The SWD Cricket Board recently announced a group of twelve player and three additional promising ladies players as part of their 2014 Academy Intake. This will be the fifth intake – the first SWD Academy Intake was in 2010 – and High Performance Coach, André du Plessis, will take charge of the 2014 intake.
Two players, Hanno Kotze and Ruan Stander, already have first class experience whilst the inclusion of two promising players that excelled at junior level – Richard Maree and Lance Roelfse underlines the efforts to keep local talent in the union. Maree represented the SA Colts and Warriors Cubs teams in 2013 and Roelfse the Warriors Cubs in 2013
Otniel Baartman (Union Stars), Ethan Coeries (Blanco Cricket Club), Edrique Cook (NMMU), Niel Hornbuckle (NMMU), Hanno Kotze (NMMU), Bonginkosi Mafilika (Thembalethu), Henzelo Makriga (SWD LSEN), Richard Maree (NMMU), Lance Roelfse (NMMU), Ruan Stander (NMMU), Deon Vivier (NMMU) and Tyron Walsh (NMMU Cricket Club)
The following three (3) women’s cricketers were also included and will join the academy on a part time base:
