The three day match between in the Cricket South Africa provincial competition ended in a draw on Saturday with SWD having the advantage in the bonus point contest with SWD recorded 8 bonus points and Border 6.9 points.
Border, who batted first, was dismissed for 245 thanks to a fine innings by former-SWD player, Burton de Wett (62). Gurshwin Rabie (4/48) and Ross McMillan (4/29) was the SWD bowling heroes. SWD, in their first innings, thanks to a brilliant century by Glen Addicot (117; 135 balls, 6×6, 11×4) scored 300 (all out) for a lead of 55 runs.
Border, who batted very slowly in their second innings, declared just before tea on the final day at 340/6 thanks to a century by Marty Walters (154) setting SWD an impossible target of 286. With SWD’s second innings score at 29/0 the two captains shook hands.
SWD will travel to Durban where they will take on KwaZulu Natal in their last fixture of the season. Ross McMillan and his troops will be confident to end a disappointing season on a high note.
The SWD Cricket team recorded an impressive bonus point victory against Boarder the past weekend in the CSA Provincial Three Day Challenge. The Oudtshoorn based team was victorious by 7 wickets after a clinical performance in all disciplines. SWD will however, in spite of their good recent form not qualify for a place in the final after KwaZulu Natal Inland, after defeating Eastern Province on Sunday, secured a place in the final against Griqualand West. SWD’s last match will be against KwaZulu Natal in Durban on Sunday.
A fine bowling performance by Siviwe Gidana (3/9 in 3 overs) backed by superb fielding restricted Border, who was asked to bat, for only 106/6 in their 20 overs. Darryl Brown made 57*. SWD, guided by another brilliant undefeated innings from Ross McMillan (72*; 47 balls, 1×6, 8×4) reached the winning target after 14.5 overs to secure a bonus point.
McMillan – 248 runs at an average of 124.00 and a strike rate of 131.21 – is currently the top batsman in the T20 competition.
