The 2014 ASA National Youth and Junior Championships, the flagship event of South African Youth and Junior Athletics, will take place on Coetzenburg Stadium in Stellenbosch from 3-5 April 2014.
All 17 Provinces affiliated to ASA has entered teams to participate in the 2014 ASA National Youth and Junior Championships.
More than 1500 of the best youth and junior athletes in South Africa will be seen in action over the 3 day of the Championships. In the Junior Men 100m for instance, no less than 8 athletes whom has achieved times of 10.7 seconds or faster has entered for the 100m Junior men’s event. They all have aspirations to qualify for the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships in America.
As 2014 is the year of the Youth Olympic Games, the Youth Athletes will attempt to qualify for the South African team to the Youth Olympic Games which will take place from 16 -28 August 2014 in Nanjing, China.
The junior athletes will attempt to qualify for the South African team to the IAAF World Junior Championships that will take place from 22-27 August 2014 in Eugene, USA.
Traditionally Coetzenburg is a popular destination for the athletics community and more than 30000 spectators are expected over the 3 days of competition.
The 2014 ASA National Youth and Junior Championships will be the second major event in as many weeks which will be hosted by Boland Athletics.
As it was the case two weeks when the 2014 SASA National Primary Schools Championships were hosted in Paarl, all accommodation in Stellenbosch and surrounding districts are almost fully booked for the 2014 ASA National Youth and Junior Championships.
The 2 National events mentioned above will inject an estimated R20 000 000 in direct investments, and a further R40 000 000.00 in indirect investments into the economy of the Cape Winelands District and its Municipalities.
