Johannesburg – 02 June 2014: Serving as a platform to identify players with potential from the Western Cape region and afford them the chance to realize their dreams, Lennox Bacela today announced the launch of his soccer tournament; The Lennox Bacela Tournament brought to you by PUMA.
“There is a real need to unearth the hidden talents that comes from rural areas. Not only from my hometown but from across the country. Talented youngsters, especially those with brilliant soccer skills, are faced with many challenges on a daily so I partnered with PUMA and The George Municipality in making this tournament a reality. The Lennox Bacela tournament was established to identify good youngsters from the region and give them an opportunity to make their dreams come true.” Says Lennox Bacela, founder and Orlando Pirates soccer star.
The two-day soccer tournament will see seven LFA’s under SAFA Eden namely; George (2 teams), Knysna (1), Mosselbay (1), Plettenbergbay (1), Oudtshoorn (1), Kannaland (1), Hessequa (1) compete to become the inaugural LB tournament champions at Lawaaikamp FNB Stadium in George on 7 & 8 June 2014. Technical sponsors to the tournament, PUMA will be sponsoring the teams with custom kits for the tournament.
QT Sports, which represents soccer stars such as Daine Klate, Brilliant Khuzwayo and Lennox Bacela himself, will be scouting for new potential talent from these teams. Those players will be afforded the opportunity to have a trial with a professional soccer team to assist in making their dream come true.
The tournament hopes to attract over 1500 sports fanatics and show young soccer players how to make an impact in their communities whilst doing something they love.
“The Lennox Bacela tournament’s main focus, at the moment, is the development of sports in the rural areas and as the initiative grows, South Africa as a whole. Experience has taught us that when you grow up in a disadvantaged area where you don’t have the greatest facilities, it can be almost impossible to achieve your goals; especially in sport. I’m here to change that.” concluded Bacela.
