Department to host learner licence course for EPWP workers

eden-dmA total of 50 workers from the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) in the Eden region are expected to benefit from a learner licence course, presented by the Department of Transport and Public Works in Paarl on 14 to 17 July 2014. The sessions will be held from 9:00 to 13:00 at the Manyano Methodist Centre.

The course forms part of one of the Department’s road safety management initiatives, and is based on the K53 defensive driving system. It will cover the rules of the road, road signs and markings, as well as controls of the vehicle.

Through hosting these courses across the Western Cape, the Department is showing its commitment to:

•          Train eligible learner-drivers to obtain an official learner’s licence;

•          Facilitate the process of obtaining a learner’s licence at the local traffic department; and

•          Inculcate responsible driver behaviour and road usage.

The course is expected to empower these EPWP workers by adding to their skills and boosting their career prospects, without them having to pay for it.
