The Cape Town City Hall lit up in shades of gold and purple last night at the glamorous charity gala, ‘Chefs who share – The ART of giving’. The event raised over R2,5 million from ticket sales, silent auction and the event auction, 100 % of which will go towards MAD CHARITY (Make a Difference) and the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.
The 21 auction items included donated artworks by Richard Scott, Anton Smit, Lionel Smit, Vivien Kohler, two tickets to the Laureus World Sport Awards in Shanghai 2015, and a Formula 1 experience in Abu Dhabi, just to name a few, auctioned off by Iain Banner at the glittering event.
The evening’s MCs, Gerry Rantseli-Elsdon and Jeremy Mansfield kept guests spirits high and the sounds of Ard Matthews, Kim Kallie and the group of young contemporary dancers called ZAMA, entertained the guests during the breaks while each of the seven chef teams created their four-course menus.
“It was once again an unforgettable night. A very big thank you to everyone involved, those that donated their time, expertise and support towards this initiative. A very big thank you to our sponsors Mercedes Benz, Deutsche Bank and Swiss International Air Lines. We would not have been able to achieve such a phenomenal level of success without them and the incredible team that helped us pull this event off”, says Barbara Lenhard, founder of ‘Chefs who share’.
