Boland holds early edge at SA Interprovincial

CAPE TOWN, 22 September 2014 – Boland got off to a promising start in the first round Foursomes at the 54th South African Interprovincial, sponsored by Tempest, while North West and Free State made a strong statement in the B-Division at Westlake Golf Club on Monday.

A-DIVISION
Ivan Williams and Henk Geldenhuys defeated Philip Spies and Meyer Pauw 5&3 to draw first blood for Southern Cape, but Jaco Spies and Herman Loubser levelled the score when they trounced Staffie Barnard and Jacques Cloete 5&4.
Karl Osche and Pierre de Villiers pounded Breyten Meyer and Jade Buitendag 6&4 to go 1-up and Armandt Scholtz and Trevor Mahoney wrapped up a 3-1 lead with a 2&1 result against Nicholas Mitchell and Jovan Rebula.
Hosts Western Province drew 2-all with Central Gauteng, while the Foursomes between defending champions Gauteng North and Ekurhuleni also ended in stalemate.

A-DIVISION – First Round Foursomes results

Western Province 2.0 vs Central Gauteng 2.0

B-DIVISION
The North West and Free State both made early cases for promotion on opening day.
North West beat Eastern Province 3-1, while Limpopo’s Hennie and Charl du Plessis were the only players to gain half a point when they squared their game against Aubrey Beckley and Danie van Niekerk.
The Eastern Province enjoyed a whitewash against Limpopo, though, and will be looking to wipe out the one point deficit against North West in the Singles.
Free State defeated Mpumalanga 3-1 and walked away with a 2.5 – 1.5 lead over KwaZulu-Natal, who also beat Mpumalanga 3-1.
