Six Golds for Bellingham at Mundus Vini

Six wines within the Bellingham portfolio were awarded Gold medals at the Mundus Vini International Wine Awards Competition – the pinnacle event for wine in Germany and one of the largest competitions of its kind in the world. The producer was also awarded two Silver medals.

The Gold medal winners were:

• Ancient Earth Cabernet Sauvignon 2012
• Ancient Earth Shiraz 2012
• Ancient Earth Pinotage 2013
• The Bernard Series “Whole Bunch” Roussanne 2014
• The Bernard Series “Basket Press” Syrah 2012
• The Bernard Series “Small Barrel” SMV 2012

The objective of this internationally recognised competition is to promote quality in the German market. The awards are intended to offer producers, wine-growers, importers and consumers a forum which, firstly, permits a comparison of wines and offers valuable help with decision-making and orientation when buying wine and, secondly, reaches a wide public.

“We are passionate about making wines not only to reach their full potential with further cellaring, but also to be enjoyed now, on their own or with a meal. Our winemaking approach is one of minimal intervention”, says Bellingham winemaker Niël Groenewald. “Time-honoured methods are combined with measured technological expertise and experimentation with new varieties and methods to create intriguing wines true to their variety and origin. Time and attention is asserted on every stage of production with a particular emphasis on palate weight, mouth-feel and preserving the natural fruit character.”

He adds that barrel choice and maturation decisions enhance the structure and complexity of the wines, but never overpower the natural character of the grape.
