S Cape beat Free State & N Cape on Day 1 of Women’s IPT

CAPE TOWN (7 October 2014) – Western Province A team delighted the home crowds with a  convincing performance against Gauteng, while Border served up the first surprise in the B-Section in Wednesday’s  first round of the Pick n Pay SA Women’s Inter-Provincial at Royal Cape Golf Club.

A-SECTION

Western Province A held a 2-1 edge after winning two games in the morning Foursomes and Nadia Lawrance, Sammy Barber and Amy Henning added three points in the Singles.

Province number one, Cara Gorlei, drove the 6 – 3 victory home when she downed reigning Sanlam SA Women’s Amateur champion, Ivanna Samu, 4 & 2.

Meanwhile Gauteng North A successfully launched their bid for an eighth successive title with a near whitewash against Gauteng B.

The defending champions won the match 8 – 1 after scoring a clean sweep in the Foursomes and claiming five points in the Singles.

Ruzanne van der Walt, Eugenie Clack, Danielle du Toit and reigning Sanlam SA Women’s Stroke Play champion, Carrie Park, won their Singles, while Gauteng B’s Symone Henriques and Chiara Contomathios picke up Gauteng B’s lone point with halves against Marne Clack and Magda Kruger respectively.

Boland beat Ekurhuleni 8 – 1, while KwaZulu-Natal downed Gauteng North B 6 – 3 in Division 2.

B-SECTION

Border knocked out local favourites, Western Province B, 5 – 1 to top of the B-Section Division 1 log.

The Foursomes finished in a stalemate after both teams won a game, but Western Province B went down to a solid assault from Border in the Singles.

Siviwe Duma beat Cherylynn Croome 1-up, reigning Southern Cape champion Demi Flanagan defeated Ashleigh Mills 1-up, Yolanda Duma downed Katia Shaff 3 & 2 and Zethu Myeki handed Adrienne Kruger a 5 & 4 drubbing.

The good news day continued for the Eastern Cape with Eastern Province scoring a 3.5 – 2.5 victory over North West Province.

Southern Cape defeated Free State & Northern Cape 5 – 1, while Mpumalanga held Limpopo to a 3.5 – 2.5 result in the B-Section Division 2.
