Disappointing start to the season for SWD Cricket

swd-150x150The SWD senior cricket team had a disappointing start for their 2014/15 campaign when they lost both the Sunfoil Cup Three Day match and the One Day match against Northerns at the Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn.

SWD came very close in the three day match after they built a first innings lead of 50 runs. SWD posted 214 in their first innings and restricted to visitors to 164 thanks to a brilliant bowling display by Gurshwin Rabie (5/41). In the SWD second innings Erinn Ewerts (69*) made in fine contribution as SWD made 211. Northerns reached the target (262) with two wickets in hand.

Northerns (292/8) won the One Day match by 107 runs thanks to a brilliant century by the SA U/19 World Cup winning captain, Aiden Markram (111). Hanno Kotze (64*) was SWD’s best batsman in their innings of 185 (all out)
