EBOLA workshop hosted at the Eden Municipal Disaster Management Centre

On Thursday, 30 October 2014 the Eden Municipal Disaster Management Centre (MDMC) in collaboration with the Department of Health and the Eden District Municipal Health Section presented a workshop on Ebola Virus Diseases (EVD) at the Eden DM disaster centre.

Mr Manie Abrahams, Provincial Environmental Health Officer based in George, informed stakeholders and line functionaries on the status of the region’s current contingency plans as well as the activation of outbreak response teams. He elaborated on the roles and responsibilities of each Department and line function as well as the correct personal protective gear to be worn when dealing with infected persons and probable- and suspect cases.

The main purpose of the workshop was to create awareness amongst first responders as well as to ensure enhanced levels of competency to be able to effectively deal with any communicable disease, including EVD.  This workshop was the first of similar monthly sessions to be hosted at the Eden MDMC.
