Working on Fire (WoF) is a government-funded, job-creation programme focusing on Integrated Fire Management in South Africa.

WoF fire fighters are recruited from marginalised communities and trained in fire awareness and education, prevention and fire suppression skills. These young men and women form veld and forest fire fighting ground crews, stationed at bases around the country to help stop the scourge of wildfire which costs the South African economy billions of rands annually.

Because of the high veldfire risk in the Southern Cape, WoF have provided the SCFPA with 8 teams to assist our members with veldfire prevention, such as creating firebreaks and controlled burns, as well assisting with the suppression of wild veld and forest fires.

On Thursday, the 20th of November, the firefighters will take part in competitions such as tug of war and the toughest firefighter. This will be held at the ATKV Amphitheatre in Hartenbos.

The formal event will be held the next day at the ATKV Whale hall and the following individuals will attend: Trevor Wilson, manager of the National Umbrella Fire Protection Association, Councillors and staff from various municipalities, management and staff from Working on Fire, PG Bison, NMMU and more. There will also be an aerial fire fighting display before lunch time.

For the event details, please see attached the program for the day and for more information regarding the Southern Cape Fire Protection Association, please visit www.scfpa.co.za

Please RSVP to this email address before 13:00 on the 17th of November. Provision will only be made for the listed (RSVP) to attend the lunch, which will be served at the end of the proceedings.
