The SWD Women’s team recorded an impressive two wicket victory with a bonus point against Griqualand West in the Cricket South Africa Provincial Women’s Competition the past weekend but unfortunately went down in the Twenty20 clash after the match was decided with a Super Over eliminator.
In the Limited over match that was played in the REC in Oudtshoorn Griquas, who batted firs, was dismissed for 143 runs – after four batters were run-out. Miceala Andrews (54; 67 balls, 3×4) recorded a vital half century to ensure that SWD reached the target (146/8) after 31.3 overs to ensure a bonus point.
In the Twenty20 match Annemie Koen (63; 54 balls, 1×6, 6×4) batted superbly to enable the SWD ladies to post a competitive 129/5. Former Protea-player, Susan Benadie (90; 63 balls, 2×6, 10×4) who played 29 limited over internationals, was a thorn in the flesh for SWD as she single handedly helped the visitors to a tie after 20 overs – 129/5. Benadie also helped Griquas to won the Super over when to score 7/1 and restricted SWD for 5/0.
