Griquas roll SWD in a day and a half

swd-150x150SWD’s Sunfoil 3-Day Cup campaign was dealt a severe blow when they were beaten by an innings and 77 runs with almost 50 over remaining on the second day.

Griquas won the toss on Thursday morning and put the home side in to bat.  Only Rod McMillan [28] and Neil Hornbuckle [27] managed to get into double figures as Jan Frylinck ripped through the batting order to finish with figures of 7/32 in 12.3 overs.  SWD were bowled out for a paltry 88 in the 39’th over.

The home side were in the game when they had Griquas at 137/6, but a 91 run partnership for the 7’th wicket by Warren Bell [38] and Patrick Kruger [59] helped the visitors post a first innings total of 266 all out.  Gurshwin Rabie picked up 4/80.

It was more of the same in SWD’s second innings who, at one stage were reeling at 57/9.  Only a 10’th wicket partnership by Rabie [18] and Lyndon Volkwyn [26] gave a measure of respectability to the score.

It was all in vain, however, as SWD came up 77 runs short of the Griquas total.
